flickr Friday: Banksy

5149742226_debaf31eae.jpgI don't know much about street art, but I've been pretty fascinated with Banksy ever since I first heard about Exit Through the Gift Shop. His Simpsons opening was pretty badass too. So when we were on flickr and saw Banksy, Essex Rd, Islington by Sue Powell, I had to post it. This photo was taken with a Panasonic DMC TZ7.

Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS: 12.1 Megapixel

canon_powershot_sd1300.jpgI've been on the market for a smaller, pocket-friendly camera lately, and I think it's possible I just found it. I was extremely happy with the Canon PowerShot I used to have - until the dirt-cheap aftermarket battery I bought exploded inside it. Let that be a lesson to you - don't be afraid to spend more than $0.99 on you Li-Ion.

The PowerShot SD1300 has a wide-angle lens, 4x optical zoom with image stabilizer, and a 2.7 inch screen on the back for your viewfinding/picture viewing pleasure. The best part? It's on sale for $30 off until November 20, 2010.

Picture Snob Monthly Roundup: October 2010

photographist.jpgI started at Picture Snob a bit late in the month last month, so the roundup looks a bit light. Expect me to keep pumping out quality posts, camera recommendations, and photo highlights in the months to come, though. Excelsior!

flickr Friday: PUMPKINZ!!1!

jackolanternz.jpgWe came at you pretty hard with last week's flickr Friday, so I thought I'd slow it down a bit while still acknowledging Halloween. This picture of some well-carved pumpkins was taken by LostMyHeadache with a Nikon D80.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II Makes All-Time 100 Gadgets

canon_eos_5d_mark2.jpgThe Canon EOS 5D Mark II is the kind of camera that makes me drool, and it turns out I'm not the only one who thinks it's a pretty durned neat piece of electronics. Time Magazine recently picked their Top 100 Gadgets of All Time and this little baby made the cut. Here's a snippet from their write-up:

An innovation that changed an industry, the full-frame 21-megapixel 5D Mark II was the first DSLR to feature full HD (1080p) video recording. Filmmakers quickly adopted the cheaper alternative to conventional and expensive interchangeable-lens cameras that film studios use.
Was it the CMOS sensor? The Digic 4 processor? The ability to take HD video? The wireless file transmitter? Or was it the fact it was the first digital camera to take an official presidential portrait? You be the judge.

Scott Kelby's Digital Photography Books (Boxed Set)

kelby_boxed_set.jpgNo matter how many pictures you've snapped, there's always room to learn, whether it's technique, technical advice, or just a refresher. I've got this boxed set and have found it extremely helpful when I want to find something specific, and interesting enough I'll flip through the books for fun when I'm bored. This set would make a great gift for any digital photography enthusiast - I give it a definite thumbs up.

Monica Menez: Secretary Cat Photo Series

secretary_cat.jpgBeing the nerd I am, i just got my weekly b3ta newsletter (not for the faint of heart or the anti-British) in my inbox. They don't often include photo spreads, they featured a photo series by Monica Menez called Secretary Cat. Since it happened to come out on my inaugural Picture Snob photo Friday, I figured I should post it. No information on the camera used to take the pics, but I thought it was interesting enough to post.

flickr Friday: Toronto Zombie Walk 2008

zombie_walk_flickr_friday.jpgWith Halloween just around the corner, I thought I'd kick off flickr Friday with a bang - not that I don't like Mandarin Ducks. Anyway, this picture of zombie mother and baby is, in the words of a flickr commenter, "disturbingly awesome." I'd have to agree.

This photo is from the flickr set Toronto Zombie Walk 2008 by wvs, and was taken with a Canon EOS.
